At Facebook’s annual F8 conference, the company unveiled it’s new Open Graph API and Protocol with plans to interconnect Facebook with other websites, and allow these sites to tie back into Facebook itself to build a new Social Web.

The official Facebook Blog post announcing Open Graph goes into somewhat more detail as to what Facebook’s plans are for the new system, and also introduced early Open Graph integrations with Microsoft, Yelp and Pandora.

These new integration options will allow sites to pull certain Facebook profile information for website visitors, and provide these sites with the tools and data to build advanced interactive solutions, such as sharing favorite web pages with friends, showing your friends what you’re currently listening to (Pandora), sharing your favorite local businesses (Yelp), and more.

You can also read more about Facebook’s Open Graph along with integration examples and privacy concerns over on Mashable.

In the past week or so if you happened to be browsing YouTube or a number of other sites using the Internet Explorer 6 web browser you may have come across the following notice (or something similar):

Many tech news sites have been covering the story YouTube’s dropped support for IE6 (including Mashable), and it looks as if the chapter of the web involving IE6 may finally be coming to a close.

In fact, there are quite a few sites devoted to tracking the “death of IE6″ and the companies that are dropping support for the antiquated browser, including IEDeathMarch, IE6Funeral and others.

These Landing pages have seen a rise in popularity lately, with larger brands Best Buy and Victoria Secret getting in on the action.

In order to build your own Facebook landing page there are a few (rather technical) steps required:

Add the static FBML App to your page on Facebook

Set up a tab on your Facebook page to serve as the landing page

Add your desired content to the landing page tab

Set your new tab as the default landing page in Facebook

Read on and get a more in-depth walkthrough of Facebook Landing Page process over at Mashable

After a slew of scandals and negative cases being reported across the many different Social Media sites, the American Express Open Forum has put together an article on How to Deal with Negative Feedback.

The main ideal behind the article is that Social Media is designed to be a conversation, and these conversations can be positive, or negative.

By and large, this type of communication is a good thing — businesses can form more personal relationships with customers and customers can become part of a community around the brands and businesses they want to support.

However, when you open the conversation up to anyone, you can also potentially invite negative criticism that you need to be prepared to deal with.

The article then goes on to break down the different types of negative feedback, and offers different methods of how to approach and react to the feedback.

This is a great article and could be of assistance to businesses involved in Social Media, especially after some of the latest scandals, such as:

Kevin Smith is kicked off a Southwest Flight for being “too fat”

Or any one of these Top Twitter Scandals

Not to mention all the Celebrity Twitter Scandals that have been going on lately.

In fact, this is such a hot topic that the Social Media Business Council has also put together Disclosures Best Practices Toolkit for businesses involved in Social Media and Networking.
